More information about MKIII

Nearly a week ago, Privateer Press anounced the new edition for Warmachine/Hordes. Slowly information is trickling into the public and to be honest: I am quite hyped about the bits and pieces that are made public now and are collected in the different communities. Not everything is shiny, but hey I am used to edition changes in Warhammer Fantasy so this can only get good *crossing my fingers* :)

Ok, so let's dig a bit deeper into the stuff and add information to my last post about this topic. This time I try to give also a bit of my opinion to the changes/rumours I picked up.

75 is the new 50 and 50 is the new 35

Points are increased throughout the whole game. It is not exact a doubling of point costs, but overall it seems they increased points. They state that if you are used to a model size today of 50 points it will be roughly 75 points in the future, if you are used to 35 it will be 50.

This change is interesting: I think that will give them a good opportunity to balance models better. I don't know MKI where they had even bigger point costs (which seems to not work well) but MKII was at some points a bit unbalance in point costs. Sometimes you asked yourself: Why do these model cost the same, even if one is cleary stronger. Sure point balance is always a thing, because you also have to count in synergies, counters etc. pp. Therefore I think this could be a good thing that they change something there.

Psychology will change massively

Fear, Terror, and Massive Casualty tests are gone it seems. So they have to rework many models especially Horde solos and beasts. Seems like they want to get rid of fleeing units somehow.

This is a bit unclear to me. I LOVE psychology for your troups. For me this was always a fun factor in games. Nothing more fun than tiny troupers covering in fear from a HUGE battle beast. Or running away if there unit was nearly annihilated in one attack. I have mixed feelings about this one, but not enough information yet about this.

Premeasuring officially allowed

We have come to believe that eyeballing spatial relations should not be a required skill to play WARMACHINE and HORDES.
Finally! Yes! I know that this is a extremely heated topic. In the Warmachine/Hordes communities you will find lots of emotional and heated discussions about this topic. But for me this gets rid of one of the most annoying things in the game: the hidden measuring over command areas. Yes, it is awesome if you can estimate a 16,5 inch distance (anyone remebers how warmachines worked in earler editions ofWHFB?) but for a competitive game this should not be a prerequisite. I really loved that change in WHFB 8th edition, I love it in KOW and I am pretty sure that they will do it right in Warmachine/Hordes.

Changes to War Room/Faction decks

With the change to the new edition, all faction decks will be updated and have to be rebought. Additionally War Room has gone through a big change, therefore you have to re-buy the decks you already own. Decks bought after January 1st 2016 will get a free update. We others shall get them at a discount.

That was to be expected. Still sad that we have to spend money again but War Room decks are already awesome and I just hope that they reworked the app a bit that it gets more stable and performant.

If you want to get more information, please follow the links to the official sources:

Ok that is it for now. There is already more in the pipeline so expect at least one more post about this :)

Privateer Press launches new edition of Warmachine/Hordes

So today when I read the tabletop news I first had to double check if it is not the 1st of April. But no...
Privateer Press anounced that on 29th of June 2016 they will release a new edition of Warmachine/Hordes!
It will come with new rules, new casters, new cards and new starter boxes. For us Warroom users there shall be a discount on the faction decks, because they will be incompatibel with the old MKII rules.

But first a promotional video from Privateer Press:

So what exactly did they tell us yet?

  • We have rebalanced every model in the game.
  • Each warcaster has a unique, flavorful spell/ability. Some casters already had, some had to be added.
  • Doubled the point scale.
  • Addresses difference between Focus and Fury.

New Mechanics:
  • Power Up: Warjack are allocated a focus for starting in the caster’s battlegroup.
  • Spirit Bonds: As warbeasts die, Warlocks can gain fury “from the grave”
  • Upped warjack/warbeast points. 28-30 points now.
  • Games are still similar sized.

Change with Huge-Base Models:

  • They feel like the monsters of the battlefield like they should.

Presentation of Story
  • Time-skip! Two-year jump.
  • Flash-Point. First installment in a trilogy.
  • Story line stuff. Resolutions and new things.
  • No favorite character is safe.

Let's see with what they come up with in the future. Looking forward to it.

Back to normal?

Long time, no see. So yes, I am still lurking around, reading Blogs, Tweets, Facebook and watching Youtube. Its just that I don't have the energy to write stuff at the moment.

Why is that? Last year did not end and this year did not start well for me. First we lost an unborn child and then my father-in-law passed away suprisingly. Since he lived abroad this was quite the struggle to get everything managed (mor for my wife than me but still...). And if that would not have been enough, the sickness wave fully struck me.

At least I think I found some power again, because we had to rebuild our "office" and by that everything concerning storage etc. pp. for my hobby stuff. It has never been THIS structured and cleaned up than now :) And I hope that I could motivate a friend of mine to Kings of War. Which would also would help to motivate to paint again.

I hope some of you still bear with me. If everything turns out, I will start posting again :)

Still alive!

Yes, I am still alive :) Lots of stuff happened in the last few weeks, which kept me from doing anything for my hobby.

First my needed vacation (and luckily we came out of Egypt before all the planes where canceled after the plane bombing).
Then the typical flu attack and years end chaos in the office.
And if that was not enough: My PC slowly and quietly died.

I know have a knew one including a bigger monitor and have to setup everything (Photoshop, Camera etc. pp.) and hope that I can start posting again soon.

Hope someone still reads this!

We are Back in the Future!

Just to spread some geekiness: Today is Back to the Future Day! If you don't know the movies: When Marty McFly got in the Delorean (his time machine), he went forward to today! Even if the scetched future of the movie is not the present, it is absolutely awesome (in a geeky way).

So if you have the possibility enjoy the movies today (many tv channels or streaming providers have the movies today on broadcast).

Terrain from spare parts: Building a dead tree

Today I want to continue with my articles about how you can make terrain out of chunk or spare parts. This time I will show you, how you can make a dead tree (the one you can see on the left side) completely from chunk.

What you will need for this:
- Paper towel
- A twig or dried flower stem
- Something for a base (e.g. a washer)
- Glue
- Sand/Earth
- Static grass/flock (completely optional)

Blog Babble - Interested in photography stuff?

Long time no see (again). But as usual I am drowning in work. My travel to Romania didn't help either and the loss of all my prepared post made it even worse. But hey, in Germany we have a saying "Unkraut vergeht nicht" ("A cat has nine lives"?). So Yes I am still here and No I haven't recovered from the loss of the articles yet.

But since I started hiking again and started experimenting with my DSLR (perhaps you remember my older article about it) I have a question to you all: Are you interested in a) Landscape pictures and more important b) Tutorials about using a DSLR and filters and maybe even picture composing/editing? If so, I will start with some articles to this topic.
