WIP - Ramshackle Games Dunny
Some fast WIP shots from the Dunny. As said I am experimenting with the weathering a bit. So far the Dunny is primed, base colored with some dark metal paint, washed with Vallejo Smokey Ink, with some selfmade wash from Vallejo Halcon Turquoise and with a selfmade wash from different pigments.
I think I will try some more pigmenting perhaps in a mixture of glue, baking soda and pigments to get the rough rust feeling. And some painted on pigments without any solvent.
At the end I will drybrush the whole thing to get a more metallic look back. And weather it again a bit down, depending on the overall result. I know it doesn't look very clean but I want a rusted look as far as I can get it :)
[UPDATE]
Just realised that something weird happened while uploading the pictures. Therefore I adjusted the post a bit.
So long,

Looking good so far mate. Though be careful on going too dark to quickly on it. Needs to have some contrast on it, so some bright spots are needed also. drbrushing it silver is one way but I would try to put some more color back into it as well. The rust idea is a great one, but use it sparingly as well! Looking forward to the finished result!
ReplyDeleteThanks! Yah I think the next step will be drybrushing to get back the metal edges and then working in some more colors. It's a big messing around :)
DeleteLooks like a pile of metal scrap so far ;)
ReplyDeleteExactly what it should look like ;)
DeleteLooking good so far, Im' actually working on some rusted metal too and found a rapid and effective method you might want to test :
ReplyDeleteWashes of all sorts (use different colours to get what you want but mostly brown and black ones) on a gross drybrush of boltgun metal (or equivalent) and then 2 solutions, either dilute your paint and blow like a maniac on the brush to throw some tiny drops of dark flesh then orange on the mini, OR use an airbrush (needs some training to get the setting right) to achieve the same effect.
Aftre that you have a very convincing and time effective rust you can enhance with rust in th eholes and you can highlight the edges with boltgun just to show where the rust has gone.
Anyway, give us your recipe, every recipe is good to take !
Looks good and rusty.
